ENGIE is a highlight in a list of leading companies in the world with “clean” revenues
ENGIE Brasil Energia has been selected to comprise the prestigious 2021 edition of Clean200, a global ranking which lists 200 publicly held companies in the world that are outstanding for their products and services by providing solutions for the planet and paving the way to the future of clean energy.
The list has been published since 2016 by Corporate Knights, a Canadian media and research company specialized in corporate sustainability, in partnership with the not-for-profits organization, As You Sow. In addition to ENGIE, only another five Brazilian companies are listed in the 2021 edition. A total of 8,080 global companies with annual sales of more than US$ 1 billion were evaluated, based on an analysis of revenues that each company derives from products and services aligned with clean economy criteria.
In addition to the focus on sustainability, Clean200 also shows that the listed companies achieved a higher financial return compared to the rest. The companies, components of the report, generated a total return of 113.41%, exceeding the MSCI ACWI market-wide index (78.67%) and the MSCI ACWI / Energy index for fossil fuel companies (-13.83%) – based on an analysis since the creation of the Clean200 in July 2016.
Its ranking as a constituent of the index represents one more important recognition for ENGIE and reaffirms the company’s historic commitment to the best environmental, social and governance practices (ESG). The Company has nearly 90% of its installed capacity from renewable sources and with low GHG emissions such as hydroelectric, wind, solar and biomass plants. “The acceleration of the transition to a carbon neutral economy is one of the fundamental guidelines of ENGIE’s global business strategy. We play a decisive role as facilitator of this transformation by directing our investments to energy generation from renewable sources, energy infrastructure and to gas transportation”, explains Eduardo Sattamini, the Company’s Chief Executive and Investor Relations Officer.
A component of B3’s Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE) since its inception 16 years ago, ENGIE was also selected to comprise the new Carbon Efficient Index – ICO2 B3, effective from January 4 to April 30, 2021.
