ENGIE invests R$ 37 million in the modernization of the Miranda Hydropower Plant
ENGIE has concluded the modernization of the electro-electronic systems of the Miranda Hydropower Plant, located in the municipality of Indianópolis, state of Minas Gerais. The upgrading is designed to increase the reliability and the operational security of the plant. In all, some R$ 37 million has been invested in the improvements.
Innovation has also played an outstanding role in the Miranda plant: since 2018, the site has been operated remotely by the Generation Operations Center based in Florianópolis (SC). To ensure the continuation of the monitoring in a secure and effective manner, the supervision of the plant’s points and control capacity have been improved, with the modernization of the following systems: Digital Supervision and Control System for the Generating Units, Auxiliary Services, Spillway and Substation, Protection and Oscillography System, Excitation System and Digital Speed Regulation and Hydraulic System of the Generating Units, as well as the Alternating Current and Direct Current Auxiliary Services, Drainage and Dewatering Process.
“The improvements have given still more reliability with an improvement in performance indicators and a reduction in downtime. This move brings greater security to the system as a whole, reinforcing the fundamental role of the hydropower plants in the supply of energy throughout Brazil”, remarks Welviston Marques Silva, manager at the Miranda plant. The asset was integrated into the ENGIE generator park in 2017 and has an installe3d capacity of 408 MW and a capacity to supply an average population of 800 thousand.
The Miranda Plant opens its doors to the community
By way of an opportunity for the community to become better acquainted with the asset following its modernization, the Miranda Plant enjoys the benefits of the Plant Visiting Program. The plant is open to anyone wishing to learn more about its operations, its history and the improvements concluded at the site. Additionally, ENGIE offers guided tours around the Jacob Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN), a permanent preservation area in the Cerrado managed by the plant.
