ENGIE Brasil Energia launches Sustainability Report.
On April 29, ENGIE Brasil Energia launched the 2020 edition of its Sustainability Report. The document is an important tool for reporting and rendering accountability to society and to stakeholders, analyzing, and detailing the highlights of the Company during the year, separated into its principal operational segments: energy generation, transmission, transportation of gas, distributed solar generation and trading.
Made up of four fundamental axes (consistency in performance, leadership in the energy transition, integral prosperity-orientated relations and environmental management), the report reveals how ENGIE Brasil Energia has managed to meet the challenges of the crisis and its ramifications, supported in its commitment of ensuring energy supplies – essential to society – and, at the same time, protecting people, comprehensively guaranteeing the health of its employees and supporting the communities in which the Company is a part.
“Just as we showed in the atypical year of 2020, so we shall continue contributing to overcoming the challenges which the future presents. We shall offer essential services for the recovery of the country’s economic growth in a sustainable way, at the same time strengthening our initiatives of social engagement and respect for the environment”, declared Eduardo Sattamini, Chief Executive Officer of ENGIE Brasil Energia on the results reported in this edition of the Sustainability Report.
The production of the Report is based on the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), a not-for-profits global organization which provides suggestions for topics, approaches, and indicators for guaranteeing the quality of corporate reports, thus permitting a comparison between organizations in different sectors and countries.
In addition to the GRI, the content of the Report has Bureau Veritas (BV) assurance and is based on guidance from other institutions of reference such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), B3, International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC), the United Nations Global Compact, the World Economic Forum, Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and the Financial Stability Board (FSB) – within the scope of the Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures(TCFD).
Highlights of the Year
Set against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic during the year, the publication looks at progress in operational and financial-economic performance from the point of view of a more in-depth context which covers the tackling of the sanitary crisis in different aspects such as occupational health and safety, support for local communities and the creation of tools for propitiating the connection between employees during the phase of social isolation, such as programs dedicated to social coexistence and to mental health.
The report also includes detailed information on the Investment Plan, which is proceeding with the installation of three major projects: the Campo Largo II Wind Complex in the Northeast, and the transmission systems Novo Estado in the North and Gralha Azul in the South; the projects under development such as the Santo Agostinho Wind Complex, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, and the Company’s decarbonization plan; as well as the launch of products for clients in the Free Energy Market such as E-conomiza and Energy Place.
ENGIE Brasil Energia’s sustainability reports are published annually and can be accessed from the Company’s website.
