TAG donates more than R$ 1 million to Fiocruz in support of combating Covid-19
Set against the scenario of tackling the Covid-19 pandemic, Transportadora Associada de Gás – TAG has entered an agreement with the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), through the United Against Covid-19 Program (unidos.fiocruz.br), donating more than R$ 1 million to the installation of the Institute’s Covid-19 Molecular Diagnostics Support Unit in the state of Bahia.
Situated on the campus of the Gonçalo Muniz Institute (IGM/Fiocruz Bahia), the unit is designed to increase the processing capacity of SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic examinations in support of the Noel Nutels Public Health Central Laboratory (Lacen). The new unit will have the capability of conducting approximately 250 molecular tests daily.
The unit in the state of Bahia is part of Fiocruz’s nationwide strategy to increase the capacity of molecular diagnosis of Sars-CoV-2 examinations and reduce processing time.
“We are joining forces to overcome the difficulties arising from such a delicate moment and impacting the lives of everyone. Through this support, we can collaborate effectively in the diagnosis and tackling of the spread of the disease and overcome this unprecedented crisis”, says Gustavo Labanca, TAG’s chief executive officer. The company currently has 1,200km of pipelines in the state of Bahia and operates in the transportation of natural gas for securing the supply of both cities and industry.
The structure at the Covid-19 Molecular Diagnostics Support Unit in Bahia, to operate within IGM-Fiocruz, will be maintained on a permanent basis and continue with the diagnosis and tackling of future endemics and outbreaks.

TAG is controlled by ENGIE, the largest private sector energy company in Brazil and operating in the generation, commercialization and transmission of electric power and energy solutions in consortium with Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec (CDPQ), a long duration institutional investor which manages funds principally for public and parapublic pension and insurance plans. Petrobras also holds a minority equity stake in the Company.
