ENGIE-operated Public Lighting PPP in Petrolina awarded international certifications
The Public Lighting PPP in the municipality of Petrolina (state of Pernambuco, Brazil), which ENGIE has been operating since 2021, took an important step forward. The project was awarded two international certifications recognizing implementation of effective environmental management (ISO 14001) and labor quality (ISO 9001) systems.
The certification audit took place in two stages held in July and August. Stage one checked all of the company’s processes and analyzed its documentation. Stage two involved on-site confirmation of compliance with requirements under ISO standards and the company’s internal standards.
In addition to a sampling of field teams the process evaluated the principal public lighting maintenance operations process, inventories, contract management, procurement, people and culture, Operational Excellence, IT, and EHS (Environment, Health and Safety).
The certifications awarded to the Company bear witness to ENGIE’s responsibility and commitment to the quality of the services provided as concerns the safety and reliability delivered to customers, together with environmental presentation.
“We are very proud to have been certified. This recognition is proof that we have in place am integrated management system, structured and documented processes, and a team engaged in upholding the group’s values: sustainability, collaboration, focus on results, and ethics,” said Marcus Cunha, ENGIE Soluções’s Operations Officer.
About the certifications
ISO is an international certification system intended to foster the standardization of products and services, using international standards for the purposes of continuous production process improvement.
ISO 14001 sets the requirements for an effective environmental management system. It helps organizations identify, control and reduce their environmental impacts, fostering sustainability and protection of the environment.
ISO 9001, by its turn, lays down the requirements for a quality management system to help organizations provide consistent and high-quality products and services that meet customers’ expectations. In Brazil, the certifications are overseen by the Brazilian Technical Standards Association ABNT – Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas).
The certifications serve as proof of the quality and efficiency of the work done by the company. In Petrolina, they are also among the obligations to be met under the PPP agreement, and part of the Performance Measurement System (Sistema de Medição de Desempenho – SMD) that monitors contract indicators.
